CCTV drain surveys

A camera through your drains, and a report you can keep

South West Drains use state of the art camera technology to investigate every inch of your drains, to determine the material of your pipe, its condition, and accurately identify the cause of any problems you may be experiencing. Our camera findings are displayed on screen showing distances travelled down the pipe, so we can pin point potential problem areas.

You get full written reports detailing pipe material, pipe size, pipe section lengths and any defects, and reports can include a site plan showing the layout of the drainage system.

Look See CCTV survey

A look see CCTV survey of your drains establishes the condition of the drainage system, and you get a written report of our findings on our job sheet.

Pre Purchase House Surveys

For the buyer or seller who wants to know the condition and layout of the drains, and any potential problems, before the sale goes through.

Full CCTV survey

A full detailed report produced on specialist camera surveying software. All drains are jetted before we camera them, so we can see the whole pipe clearly, and you get a detailed site plan.

Septic Tank Inspection

Whether your home runs to a septic tank or the main sewer, we can give the whole system a thorough check.

Buying a house? Have the drains checked first

A usual house survey would not pick up underground pipe work, the condition and material type of the pipe. If any underlying fault is not found, certain repairs can work out to be very costly. We will carry out a professional and thorough survey of the foul drainage system on the home you are interested in, carried out by a local expert. Not only will you receive a full list of any potential problems and an easy to read overview of the drainage system, a quotation will also be included with the report.

It doesn't matter if your new home is connected to the main sewer or runs to a septic tank, we can still give the whole system a thorough check.

  • Computerised drain report
  • Verbal reports given on the day for purchasers in a hurry
  • Footage of the survey and a basic site plan
  • Quotation for any recommended work

The iTouch camera

We have invested in iTouch CCTV camera equipment and software. The iTouch One lets us inspect, record and produce full CCTV inspection reports all in one go from the side of the manhole, and reports usually get finished on the same day and forwarded straight on to our clients, through our live web portal. We are still offering CCTV drain surveys using our original XTec software too.

Senior citizen discount

Senior citizen discount is available on certain surveys. Please ask for more details when you ring.

Sonar Tracing and spot digs

Find the fault, then dig only where it is

Sonar tracing is ideal for locating buried pipe work and the damaged areas of pipe. We can then locate the problem areas and carry out spot digs to assess and carry out remedial work where required.

Using Sonar Tracing is often the most cost effective method for locating buried or damaged areas of the pipe. It means we are able to replace smaller sections of your pipe, costing you less than other methods.

Pitch Fibre pipes

Blistered pitch fibre pipes, relined with no dig

Pitch fibre pipes were mostly used from the 1950s to the early 1970s. They were relatively inexpensive and came in 8 foot lengths, but it soon became apparent they were susceptible to delamination of their inner surface, known in the trade as blisters, and to collapse under load. Even laid correctly, they can be expected to have a life span of up to 40 years, so many have passed their designed life expectancy.

How we fix it

  1. A pre-fabricated metal former, the exact size of the original pipe, is winched through to reform the blistered pipe back to its original shape.

  2. We carry out high pressure water jetting to make sure the pipe walls are clean, and confirm it with a CCTV survey.

  3. A polyester liner impregnated with special resin is inserted and pushed tightly against the existing pipe wall with water or air pressure.

  4. Once the resin has cured you have a new, seamless GRP liner inside your old pipe, which stops it blistering and deforming again. Only around 6mm of pipe diameter is lost.

  5. A final CCTV survey makes sure the lining has been carried out to our high standards.

A full 10 year guarantee

South West Drains gives a full 10 year guarantee with all lining work, and it's a far more cost effective and considerably less disruptive procedure for your property than a conventional excavation.

If you have had problems with pitch fibre drains, we take every precaution to use the lowest possible pressure if needed to clear blockages.

Preventative Maintenance

Stop the blockage before it starts

For domestic, commercial and industrial clients with problematic drains who don't want the inconvenience of a blocked drain at the worst possible moment, normally during opening hours. Restaurants, cafes, hotels, launderettes and pubs see a build up of fat, grease and other debris that can soon cause blockages.

We will come out and assess the situation free of charge, produce a preventative maintenance programme to meet your needs, then arrive at a prearranged time and date which is most convenient to your business and carry out High Pressure Water Jetting, so your drains are flowing to their full potential, because prevention is better than cure.

Septic tanks, through South West Tanks

Septic tank emptying, surveys and replacements

We have a large sewage truck for septic tank removal. South West Tanks, our sister company, offers a range of septic tank de-sludging services for domestic and commercial customers across the Cornwall and West Devon region.

We can empty your tanks to ensure efficient drains, prolong your soakaway and keep bacteria and gas emissions contained. Emptying should be performed once a year, though of course it depends on the amount of waste going into the tank and its size.

  • Surveys that get to the root of the problem
  • Septic tank maintenance
  • Replacement tanks when necessary
  • Pump chamber cleaning
  • Domestic septic tank clearance
  • Commercial clearance when instructed

To ensure your new septic tank will not need replacing in the future, we only install tested and proven tanks. We aim to promote good environmental practice whilst operating cost effectively and efficiently.
